#2 Ejtimaa (7-2) ran well in 3 of 4 dirt sprint attempts. He stalked and romped in back-to-back local dirt sprints on Feb. 17 (1st by 11) and March 22 (1st by 4 lengths at 7f). He broke slow and finished 6th of 7 in his needed dirt sprint return at Parx Nov. 5, and he returned to Tampa Bay and rallied to finish a clear second vs. Clm-25k/3L foes Nov. 29. He is back at his winning distance and this is his third start after a layoff.
#4 Osprey (3-1) was part of the exacta in his last five starts. High percentage trainer Juan Arriagada claimed him Oct. 12 and he overcame a troubled start to miss by a head in a similar local dirt sprint Nov. 20. Jose Batista got to know him last time and he owns competitive speed ratings. He sports a pair of wins at this distance and projects a stalking trip.
#8 Life Is Precious (5-2) exits back-to-back show finishes at Gulfstream and Tampa Bay. He stalked and missed by less than a length as the 3-2 favorite Nov. 20. He rallied for the place in a local dirt sprint try earlier this year and projects a comfortable stalking trip from the outside post.
#1 Cruising Derek (6-1) battled on the pace and held the place in his last two dirt sprints at Monmouth, and he earned the best last-race number Sept. 1. The 1-for-16 gelding picked up minor awards eight times and might be the controlling speed from the inside post. He is 0-for-7 with four underneath finishes at Tampa Bay, and he dueled and was best of the rest in third in his lone extended sprint try.
