Horse Comments:
#2 Test Score (3-1) ships in for Graham Motion and he won two stakes route races on turf at the current stand (Warming, Vronti). This one won the G1 Pegasus Turf in January and was a close second in the G1 Manhattan in June. He hit the board in both previous local turf route stakes and Saturday’s rider Juan Hernandez guided him to victory in the G2 Twilight Derby at SA last fall. He was an uncomfortable 6th of 7 when last seen in the G1 Arlington Million Aug. 1.
#4 Gold Phoenix (5-2) won three of his last four graded turf routes at 9T (G2 Eddie Read), 14T (San Juan Capistrano), and 12T (San Luis Rey). He won the local G2 Del Mar Handicap at 11T in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, and he is on top of his game as an 8-year-old gelding.
#7 Atitlan (6-1) rallied to finish a neck behind Gold Phoenix in this race last year. He returned from a layoff of 11+ months and rallied to finish an even 4th of 8 in the Wickerr at 8T July 19 and winner King of Gosford clicked right back in the G2 Del Mar Mile. Umberto Rispoli takes the call and he is a quality turf pilot.
#8 Mondego (6-1) gets the services of Antonio Fresu and this one captured a pair of 10T graded events this year and was third in the G3 San Luis Rey at 12T. He ran around the track in the G2 Eddie Read at 9T last time and should appreciate the added ground.
#5 Atomic Age (20-1) made his first start as a gelding and stalked and scored at DMR Aug. 6 (OC-50k/1x, 11T). Kazushi Kimura is his new rider and he shows two local turf moves since his last start.
